Willowgate trout fishery- The staff at Willowgate are very busy right now with weed cutting and bank maintenance the main focus of out time. The lack of rain and warm dry weather is certainly a welcome spell of weather but encourages vegetation growth in the pond. The staff are dedicated to keeping the quality of the fishing as high as possible during the warm summer months and we hope if you come to sample the fishing that you enjoyself. Recent weed cutting operations have been very successful and will be continued as we progress through the season.

Willowgate trout fishery- The main feature of this weeks fishing has been the very hot summer weather. Whilst providing long awaited relief from the Arctic winter and recent poor summers the fishing has still been good on Willowgate with moth rods managing their limits. Best catches include young Keiran McLean from Balnearay school with a 10lb during AFYD casting instruction. On the 17th Mr McRitchie had 3 for 12 1/2lb and Mr Sinclair had 3 for 15lb. On the 19th Bonnybridge AC had 26 fish for 51lb plus plenty fish returned. S Henry has 2 for 7lb, Mr Smith returned 10 on a C+R ticket. Tactics working well include damsels nymphs, buzzers and dawl bachs. Blobs and lures are still effective for the stockies. Evening sessions are providing some excellent dry fly fishing. We are closed Monday and Tuesday evenings but the rest of the week we are open till 10.30pm. To book a rod please contact the fishery on 01738446546.

 

 

Willowgate trout fishery- BIG fish winners

Willowgate trout fishery- These are the winners from the BIG fish event held today at Willowgate. Top angler on the day was Peter Buchanan who scooped the yellow tagged fish netting him a £200 prize plus the heaviest bag at 4 for 17lb. Other prize winners included Dave Cook with the heaviest untagged fish at 3 1/2 lb.

Willowgate trout fishery- The secong tagged fish of the day has been captured by David Cairney. Congratulations to Dave who had fished in the BIG fish events for 4 years and this is his first tagged trout. He will have to wait till the prize giving to find out if he has won the £500 jackpot or booby prize.

Willowgate trout fishery- Willowgate trout fishery are delighted to be involved in the Macmillan BIG fish event today.

 

 

In the morning a draw was made to decide the prizes for the tagged fish. And almost immediately the first tagged fish was caught netting captor Peter Buchanan a whopping £200 prize. Congratulations to Peter.

 

Peters tagged fish which weighed in at 11 1/2lb.

 

Willowgate trout fishery- Fishing well, weed cutting

Willowgate trout fishery- Weed cutting operations have been going full steam at Willowgate this week, with lots of new areas opened up to fishers. These areas are already producing good catches. Imitative patterns are still doing well, but anglers who wish to fish small lures or blobs are also having success. The natural life around the pond is fantastic and it is maturing nicely. The fish are currently enjoying a feast of small fogs and sticklebacks and the ever present buzzer hatches. It is very rewarding to see wildlife responding to the careful management of the pond and its surrounding land. It is truly becoming a wildlife haven.

Willowgate trout fishery- Some good action today in the light easterly breeze. Plenty of Mayfly and buzzers hatching during the day. Fish were coming to a range of tactics including dries, nymphs and blob patterns. The Macmillan BIG fish event is coming to Willowgate on Saturday 12th June.
